About Us

KCU is an independent citizen-led advocacy organization focused on transparency, accountability, and public engagement in local government. KCU operates independently and is not controlled by any political party, elected official, developer, or government institution.

While members share common goals, individual perspectives do not necessarily represent the group as a whole.

Founded in July 2024 as the grassroots organization 'Kamloops AAP Vote Group,' Kamloops Citizens United (KCU) emerged in response to concerns over the city council and senior administration's decision to use an Alternative Approval Process (AAP) instead of the referendum previously planned by the former council. The bylaws in question involved major arts and recreational projects requiring $275 million in taxpayer-funded loans. Concerned residents challenged this approach, leading to KCU's transformation into a civic advocacy group.

With no formal opposition in municipal governments, citizens in BC are uniting to demand improvements in accountability, communication, and transparency (ACT) within their municipalities.

KCU is led by local business owners and residents with relevant education, business, and professional credentials, and is supported by several current and former community leaders.
