AAP Lawsuit More Vital Than Ever

Why is the AAP’s lawsuit against the city more vital than ever?

The City of Kamloops Council and Administration need more focus.

They are mixing up their priorities in a way that harms the community.

Knowing a facility’s budget shortfall announcement and significant tax increase were in the offing; they needed to rush the AAP through before anyone could start tallying up what citizens would be on the hook for long into the foreseeable future.

As outlined in the AAP lawsuit filed in the Supreme Court, the City made errors in its haste.

Why would a city council, claiming to uphold good governance, make such critical mistakes?

Almost immediately after the AAP bylaws were passed, the city announced a $2 million shortfall and other increases that add up to nearly a 10% tax hike. Projections show that by 2030, the average annual tax bill will reach approximately $6,895.17—an increase of 72.83%. (calculated at 9.5%)

This doesn’t even include the taxes for the proposed Performing Arts Centre or the Multiplex, which would add another $375 by year 5 and into infinity.

Now is the time to hold this council accountable.

As costs continue rising, it wastes money on avoidable expenses such as conflict-of-interest lawsuits, investigative reports, and staff meals.

We need your help to hold our elected officials accountable for their actions!
