Water Outage in Kamloops Raises Questions About Emergency Communication

by KCU | May 13, 2026 | Governance & Accountability, Public Safety | 0 comments

Dear City of Kamloops,

We said it during the AAP, and we’ll say it again during this infrastructure emergency:

Relying primarily on online methods to reach residents is not acceptable.

Neither is blaming residents.

Many people say the Voyent Alert system didn’t notify them properly, while others either weren’t aware of it or don’t use cell phone apps.

Thankfully this was water and not wildfire.

Emergency communication needs to reach everyone — quickly, clearly, and through multiple methods.

Please do better.
