Call to Pause Kamloops PAC and Multiplex Projects

At last week’s Council meeting (March 10), Mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson introduced a motion to postpone/delay the PAC and Multiplex projects for up to one year, halt further spending and contracts, and require a staff report on the financial and legal impacts.

The motion cites financial pressures, funding uncertainty, and the scale of long-term commitments.

Large construction projects and rising costs

KCU supports this motion, as we have previously called for a pause on the PAC project due to the lack of a clear financial picture and no direct public input at the current cost level—now increased by approximately 37%, from the $154M presented during the AAP to $211M.

Will the $125M Multiplex cost increase as well?

Even if there are costs to pause, they are far smaller than committing to hundreds of millions without full clarity or a direct public vote.
